Turnaround

Time has a way
of changing things.
Why, just the other day
I was getting my things together
for a trip to the laundry.
I had it all sorted,
all ready to go,
then I thought
“I really ought to shower
before I offend
an unsuspecting public.”

So I reach in the closet
for my favorite towel
and… it’s not there.
I know its companion
is in the sort, ready to wash,
but I’m missing one.
Damn, I must have left it,
nicely folded, clean, fresh,
the last time I did laundry.
And some caring soul
picked it up for me.
But… how could anyone else
love that towel
the way I loved that towel.

Later, at the laundry,
I discovered the missing towel.
It had been in the sorted all along.
I tossed that old rag
into the wash
with everything else.

Isn’t is funny how time
has a way
of changing things.
